Corporate & Foundation Relations Officer
Job Description:
Global Communities is seeking a Corporate and Foundation Relations Officer to join the Institutional Advancement team at the headquarters in downtown Silver Spring, Maryland.    The position will report directly to the Vice President of Institutional Advancement.   He/she will work collaboratively with headquarters and country office colleagues to develop and implement strategies for generating and maintaining support from corporations and foundations; and will develop and manage relationships with prospective and existing corporate and foundation partners in all aspects of the funding cycle, including identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship.   Specific duties include the following:  

1. Identifies corporate and foundation prospects and gathers information regarding their business and philanthropic interests and giving capacity.

  • Conducts online and print research in an effort to identify and qualify corporations and foundations with interests that align with Global Communities programs and priorities
  • Collects information about current and potential partners through attending corporate briefings, meetings with current allies and other venues
  • Prepares analyses and reports on findings for country and headquarters staff, as well as executive management

2. Works with program staff to cultivate and solicit corporations and foundations and taking the lead where appropriate.

  • Provides background information on the priorities and needs of prospective funders.
  • Participates in the development of strategies for cultivating and soliciting prospects.
  • Coordinates meetings with and presentations to corporate and foundation partners and prospects, including preparing concept briefs, PowerPoint presentations and other materials needed.
  • Writes and/or edits proposals that meet the interests and needs of the funders.
  • Follows up on outstanding contacts and proposals and determines next steps
  • Conducts due diligence research and Office of Foreign Asset Control (OFAC) checks on new partners.

3. Stewards the relationship between Global Communities, corporations and foundations.

  • Develops and maintains relationships with contacts at corporations/foundations.
  • Manages a system and database to collect and manage corporate/foundation information.
  • Coordinates with the field offices to ensure all required progress reports are submitted on time and to the funders’ stated preferences.
  • Identifies and acts on opportunities to engage and inform current and potential corporate/foundation partners, such as sending reports and issue papers, organizing webinars, and convening presentations.

4.  Monitors the progress of corporate and foundation efforts and provides regular reports to the Vice President.

5.  Remains current and informed on funding trends and preferences of corporations and foundations.

6.  Undertakes all other duties and projects as may be assigned.
Required Skills

  • Ability to perform advanced research from a variety of sources of business and financial data and information. Strong strategic and analytical skills to interpret that data and develop appropriate recommendations.
  • Excellent written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to write in a clear, concise, well-organized, and persuasive manner. Demonstrated ability to edit the work of others, particularly non-native English speakers. Meticulous grammar and spelling.
  • Ability to work effectively with persons on all levels both inside and outside the company and to engage in a high level of collaboration with both peer and senior level colleagues.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills. Demonstrated ability to take initiative, manage multiple tasks simultaneously and prioritize effectively. Creative, resourceful and entrepreneurial.
  • High level of confidentiality and discretion.
  • Fluency in English required. Abilities in a second language preferred.
  • Advanced computer skills in a Windows-based environment including Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, and Access.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents and to sit at a computer and operate a keyboard.
Required Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of three years of successful fundraising experience, preferably working with foundations and corporations. 
  • Knowledge of SalesForce or a similar fundraising database needed.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must have U.S. Work Authorization.
