Position Description
Department: Development
Reports To: CDO
Position Summary:
The Grant Writer is
responsible for identifying and securing financial resources for Mary's
Center. Primary responsibilities include
researching, writing and submitting grant proposals in the range of $20,000 to
$750,000, to private foundations, corporations and government agencies. Proposals
are submitted for a broad range of social and educational programs and
healthcare services offered at Mary’s Center. The Grant Writer is also
responsible for research, maintaining funder files and keeping the donor base
current.
Reportability:
The Grant Writer reports
directly to the CDO and is ultimately accountable to the CFO and CEO of Mary’s
Center.
Essential Duties &
Responsibilities:
Include the following. Other
duties may be assigned.
Proposals and Research:
·
Write and submit up
to $3,000,000 in grant proposals per year.
·
Maintain a grants
calendar of due dates and deliverables
·
Maintain files of
current guidelines, grants, including reports by Program Managers, and
correspondence with funders.
·
Conduct research
on current health related issues in order to maintain current statistics and
demographical information for use in proposals.
·
Work with Program
staff to develop proposals and boilerplates for various program grants.
·
Schedule and
conduct bi-monthly grant review committee meetings
·
Maintain Grants
Database
·
Work
collaboratively with the Finance Department
Budgets and Financial
Reports:
·
In conjunction
with the Finance staff, CDO, and program staff, reviews budget content and
format for all grant proposals.
Other:
·
Perform other
duties determined as necessary by the CDO.

Qualifications:
To perform this job

Education and/or Experience – Requires a BA/BS and experience in development,
fundraising, communications or related-field, experience writing and submitting
federal government grant proposals. Must
have a strong interest in the organization's mission, excellent technical writing
skills, be detail-orientated, the ability to work effectively in teams and
across organizational lines, and the ability to manage multiple priorities and
tight deadlines.
Reasoning Ability – Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out highly-complex,
multi-step instructions and make appropriate independent decisions as necessary
Physical Demands – Regularly required to sit; frequently required to reach with hands
and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk or hear; must be able to lift objects up to
twenty-five (25) pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made to

Work Environment – Mostly in a typical office setting with quite to moderate noise
level.
