EDITORS' NOTE: ALL VOTES MUST BE CAST BY AUGUST 15 @  http://grantprofessionals.org/about/board/2014-board-elections

My name is Maggie Holmes, M.A., GPC, President of The Write Group, LLC. A Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) company working with nonprofits to build capacity and offer grantsmanship Services.

We have been writing and managing grants for over 20 plus years in all aspects of the grant cycle. My experience is with federal, state, foundations, and corporations.

In 2005, I joined the National Grant Professionals Association’s (GPA) Chapter in Washington, DC and have been very active in the Chapter’s activities and continue to be active in the Chapter today. I joined GPA as a national member in 2005 and for the next 3 years, worked closely with the National Office to host its conference in Washington, DC, and the local Chapter to host and sponsor educational sessions for its members.

In 2007, I participated as a Subject Matter Expert with Grant Professionals Certification Institution (GPCI) to develop the very first certification exam for the grant profession. I received the Grant Professionals Certification (GPC) in 2007 and have maintained that certification, because I believe in the work and its importance. Also, worked with GPCI as a scorer for four years.

Currently, I am serving as the Co-chair for the Advocacy Special Interest Group (SIG) and serving on GPA’s Long-Range Committee.

What Do I bring to the National Grant Professionals Association (GPA) Board?

Commitment to the profession, the work that we do, and an interest to continue to grow and build on the work that has been accomplished by GPA’s volunteers and staff.

Experience: 15 plus years of working for national nonprofits, with a regional and state affiliates/chapters. Twenty years working on behalf of nonprofits at the local and state levels to encourage funders and others to invest in the capacity building of the nonprofit sector.

Vision for the growth of GPA and some strategic thoughts and strategies to contribute to the larger conversations.

As the President for three terms, of the Human Services Coalition of Prince George’s County, I worked to get the first federal grant for the organization‘s county office, and increased funding by 200%.  Created a “voice” for the nonprofit community in the region and state of Maryland. I started a nonprofit incubator as a service to community to support capacity building activities for the nonprofit sector.

As a candidate for the GPA Board of Directors, I would be a good fit for three reasons:

1) I am committed to building and supporting the nonprofit sector.  I understands and work in all aspects of grant writing and management and serving as an executive coach to many nonprofit executives.

2) I believe in the vision and mission of the organization, and would be honored to support the organization’s vision.

3) For seven years as President of a county-wide nonprofit, serving nonprofits to build capacity and increase their success in grant writing, worked with Board members and staff at the local level increasing awareness, strategic thinking, organization development, management and leadership of the grant profession in Maryland and DC.

These are skills that can help promote and strengthen the work of GPA. A VOTE for me, is a vote for a person with integrity, a team player, and an experienced professional that continues to strive for excellence.
