February 4, 2015
Dear GPA National Capital Area Chapter Colleagues:
Although 2015 is already in full swing, we want to take the time to welcome you into a new Chapter Year and to provide an overview of the coming months.
2014 brought us several new members, many strong presentations, a facility tour at Mary’s Center for Maternal and Child Care, and a great Summer Social gathering at the Beer Garden in Bethesda. We again are appreciative and thankful for the leadership provided by the 2014 Board of Directors: Chapter President Marilyn Aklin, who continues her Board role as Immediate Past President; Tom Nassief, Vice President; Carrie Feehan, Secretary; Tara Davis, Treasurer; and Lynne Zaris, Program Chair.
Long-time NBA coach Pat Riley once said, “Excellence is the gradual result of always striving to do better.” In 2015, we would like to continue with that momentum and build upon it. As your new chapter board of directors, we would like to make this year, the chapter's 10th anniversary year, “The Year of Excellence” for our chapter as we make it stronger and as beneficial as possible for you, our members. In order to learn how we can serve you best in achieving this goal of excellence, we will soon send you a survey to complete and return.
For chapter meetings and programs this year, we are going to hear about writing for GPA publications, we will learn about obtaining the GPC credentials offered for professional grant writers, and we will feature more updates from the GPA National Office.
While our membership roster is of good size, we want to continue to increase our ranks, retain those new members, and re-engage those members whom we have not seen in a while.
Our membership is diverse in so many ways and we want that to be known and recognized. We want the National Capital Area Chapter to be engaged locally, nationally and globally. We want our collective excellence to shine brightly. The compassion that we have for grantsmanship and the power of grants to change lives is the same compassion and pride that we feel and exude as members of this chapter and in constantly improving our chapter’s work.
Please join us this year for quarterly Chapter meetings – stay tuned for notices of these meetings. The option to call into a meeting is generally always available. We will have at least one social this year, and a holiday-season/year-end close out.
And we would love to hear from you. We can be reached at our individual e-mail addresses, at the Chapter’s e-mail address grantsnca@gmail.com, and on our Chapter blog gpancachapter.blogspot. com. We also plan to a launch a chapter LinkedIn page shortly.
We look forward to working with you,
President
