POSITION
TITLE: Development Officer for Major Gifts
DEPARTMENT: Development
and Membership
REPORTS
TO: Vice President of Development and Membership
PRIMARY
OBJECTIVE: To
increase revenue for Bread for the World and Bread for the World Institute by
developing relationships with major donors and prospects and through solicitation
of major gifts.
PRIMARY
RESPONSIBILITIES/ACTIVITIES:
- Cultivates
a prospect list of approximately 100 individuals through a moves
management process, soliciting current and planned gifts.
- Visits
with major donors and prospects in the Mid-Atlantic region.
- Develops
a list of prospects for inclusion in the above list of 100, giving
consideration to first time donors, existing members, contacts who are not
members and donors who will increase the ethnic diversity of our donor
base.
- Promotes
major gifts fundraising throughout the organization, collaborating with
staff, volunteers and Board members.
- Collaborates
to build the case and develops proposals for Bread/Institute that can be used
in written material, presentations, and conversations with diverse individuals,
groups, private foundations, etc.
- Initiates
and collaborates around briefings and regional events for major donors.
Represents Bread/Institute on occasion in public forums and speaking
engagements.
- Maintains
and updates donor records on Raiser’s Edge and researches opportunities
and trends.
- Participates with the full range of Bread and Institute development activities, including strategy development, goal setting, staff meetings and other departmental responsibilities as may arise.

EXERCISED: None
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE
REQUIRED:
BA or BS degree
Proven
successful major donor fund-raising experience
Ability
to relate easily to donors, potential donors, foundation personnel, and
CEO-level persons
Ability
to organize work flow strategically
Ability
to develop appropriate proposals for major donor/private foundation consideration
Working
knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Raiser’s Edge
Experience
working with diverse donors is preferred
WORK
ENVIRONMENT ISSUES:
Travel
locally and nationally at least 100 days per year
